In 2011, Switzerland launched an ambitious programme to revitalise its rivers and streams. Thousands of kilometres of shoreline built up over the course of the 20th century will be restored to their natural state to expand farmland and protect their biodiversity, currently under threat. The project will continue until 2090 and cost several tens of millions of Swiss francs per year.
LargeNetwork has taken this opportunity to produce a meticulous map of the more than 80,000 kilometres of Switzerland’s rivers and streams – that’s two times the distance around the earth – along with statistical facts and figures.
The infographic was designed based on data from Swisstopo, Switzerland’s Federal Office of Topography and published in Reflex magazine. You can receive a copy for €20 by contacting LargeNetwork at info@LargeNetwork.com.
